Why Use Pre-Made Jackfruit BBQ

You can totally prep and cook the jackfruit from scratch and add in your own bbq sauce. It definitely would not be a difficult task!

I wanted to have a quick recipe for a gathering and didn’t want to spend too much time prepping which is why a premade version is the perfect alternative! This is the brand I use in this recipe.

The only “prep” required for the jackfruit is to cook it in a pan for a few minutes. So quick and easy! Definitely the easy you would want for these vegan jackfruit pulled pork bbq sliders.

Ingredients Needed

Very few ingredients required for this recipe which is why it is PERFECT when you’re in a pinch and need to whip something up for a crowd! Here’s an overview of what you’ll need.

  • Sweet Potato
  • Cayenne
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Avocado Oil
  • Jackfruit BBQ
  • Avocado Mayo
  • Spring Salad Mix
  • Optional garnishes:ย Green Onions, Jalapeno slices

Substitution Options

Few customizations can definitely be made to this recipe to better fit your taste and requirements. Below are some substitution options, to give you a similar result for this vegan pulled pork sliders recipe.

  • Sweet Potato: If you’re not a fan of sweet potato as your “bun”, you most certainly can use regular slider buns for this recipe!
  • Jackfruit BBQ: Like I mentioned before, you can totally whip up your own jackfruit bbq for this recipe. Here’s a simple yet tasty recipes by Brittany.
  • Avocado Mayo: Any mayo can be used for this recipe but to keep it vegan, I highly suggest this brand! You can also make your own vegan mayo which is definitely super easy as well!

Equipment and Tools

No super fancy equipment is needed for this recipe and you can totally make do with traditional equipment! You will need the following:

  • Toaster Oven: I definitely prefer using this to bake my desserts instead of heating up my large oven.
  • Large Pan: You’ll cook your jackfruit in here and depending on how large of a crowd you’re feeding, you may need another one of those or something larger!
  • A good cutting board
  • A sharp, large knife

How To Make This Vegan Jackfruit Pulled Pork BBQ Sliders

One of the easiest jackfruit recipes that is incredibly easy to make and can be completed start to finish in less than 30 minutes! Make it for friends and family or just yourself at home! Perfect for events such as 4th of July coming up or for a backyard gathering.

The sweet potato bun makes for a great low calorie and low carb option too and still keeps a healthy and flavorful taste. It sure won’t disappoint!

Cook the Sweet Potato Slices

Start off by preheating your oven to 425ยฐ (I love using my toaster oven for this because it heats up in seconds!).

Try to you thicker sweet potatoes. Wash and then slice your sweet potato into 1/2 inch discs. Depending on how many sliders you’re making, you’ll want less or more slices. For two servings, I cut about 12 slices.

Place in a baking dish and brush/spray each side with avocado oil. Sprinkle in your spices (be careful with the cayenne – it’s spicy!). Roast in the oven for 10-12 minutes on each side.

Cook the Jackfruit BBQ

Super easy vegan pulled pork is to use a simple premade jackfruit bbq! I grabbed my packet and added it to my large pan (no oil required).

Use a spoon or fork to break up the chunks so the jackfruit is more โ€œshreddedโ€. Cook for roughly 5-7 minutes or medium heat.

Build You Sliders

Now we put our sliders together! Add some green leaves to a sweet potato bun, then your Jackfruit BBQ, and some mayo. Then garnish with green onions & jalapeรฑos. Add whatever you like! I winged it!

FAQs

  1. Is Jackfruit BBQ a Good Meat Substitute for Pulled Pork

Jackfruit is an excellent and natural, unprocessed, substitute for pulled pork in this recipe. I used premade jackfruit BBQ for this recipe but you can definitely prep some yourself before hand! It’s super filling and gives a nice hearty texture, similar to pulled pork.

  2. How is this Recipe Low Calorie and Low Carbs

By eliminating bread in this recipe and using sweet potato, it’s a great low calorie and low carb meal! It will fill you up but also leave plenty of room for other yummy foods and dessert.

  3. How to Store Leftovers for this Vegan Jackfruit Pulled Pork BBQ Sliders?

I’ll be honest, these sliders taste the best when fresh! Once cooked, the sweet potato won’t remain as crispy and the jackfruit will cool and start to harden. I suggest only making as much as needed but if you do happen to have leftovers, store the sweet potato in an airtight container and the jackfruit in a separate container. When ready to enjoy again, roast the sweet potato in the oven similarly and reheat the jackfruit in your pan.
