Jump to Recipe Jump to Video Tutorial

Bold, Cheesy, Spicy Perfection.

This Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza is what happens when a random kitchen moment turns into something you canโ€™t stop thinking about. Itโ€™s cozy, a little fiery, perfectly cheesy, and honestly tastes like something youโ€™d order from a trendy wood-fired spotโ€ฆ except you made it yourself. And yes, this is your sign to try making homemade pizza dough because it is way less intimidating than it sounds.

Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza served on parchment paper over a wooden board, featuring a golden crust topped with melted mozzarella, roasted red pepper slices, fresh basil, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Two small pizzas are sliced into quarters, highlighting the bubbly cheese and vibrant red peppers.

Thereโ€™s just something about a good Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza that hits differently. The smoky sweetness from the roasted red peppers, the subtle heat from the Calabrian peppers, and that melty mozzarella situation? Elite combo. Add in a crust made with Greek yogurt for a boost of protein and that subtle tang, and suddenly youโ€™ve got yourself a high protein personal pizza that actually keeps you full.

If youโ€™ve ever been nervous about making dough, donโ€™t be. We activate the yeast, mix in flour and yogurt, knead it out (even if it starts a little tacky), and let it rise until itโ€™s beautifully puffy. Roll it out, leave that perfect edge for the crust, and bake until itโ€™s golden and crisp on the outside but still soft and fluffy on the inside. Itโ€™s the kind of homemade pizza with roasted red peppers that feels impressive but is totally doable.

Then comes the magic: sauce, mozzarella, smoky peppers, and those spicy Calabrian beauties scattered on top. This Calabrian pepper pizza is cheesy, slightly spicy, perfectly balanced, and made just for you. A true high protein personal pizza moment that proves homemade always wins.

Key Ingredients for this Calabrian Roasted Red Pepper Personal Pizza

To make this bold and flavorful Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza, weโ€™re keeping the ingredient list simple but intentional. Every component plays a role in building that perfect balance of chewy crust, melty cheese, smoky sweetness, and just the right amount of heat. Letโ€™s break down what makes this homemade pizza with roasted red peppers so good.

    • Warm Water: This is what activates the yeast and brings your homemade pizza dough to life. The right temperature ensures a proper rise and helps create that soft, fluffy interior with a golden exterior.
    • Salt: Essential for enhancing flavor and strengthening the dough structure. Even a small amount makes a big difference in your Calabrian pepper pizza crust.
    • Sugar: A tiny boost to help feed the yeast and encourage that beautiful rise while adding subtle balance to the dough.
    • Instant Yeast: The powerhouse behind that airy, chewy texture. It transforms simple ingredients into a bakery-style crust for your high protein personal pizza.
    • All Purpose Flour: The foundation of the dough. It provides structure and that classic chew you expect from a really good homemade pizza dough.
    • 0% Milkfat Greek Yogurt: The secret weapon. It adds protein, subtle tang, and extra chew, turning this into a high protein personal pizza that actually keeps you satisfied.
    • Semolina Flour: A light sprinkle keeps the dough from sticking and helps create that slightly crisp bottom crust on your Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.
    • Garlic Lovers Pizza Sauce: Bold, savory, and packed with flavor. It lays the perfect base for this homemade pizza with roasted red peppers.
    • Fat Free Mozzarella: Melts beautifully and gives you that classic cheesy pull without weighing the pizza down.
    • Calabrian Pepper: Brings the signature spicy kick that makes this a true Calabrian pepper pizza moment.
    • Roasted Red Pepper: Smoky, slightly sweet, and the perfect contrast to the heat. A must for any Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.
    • Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese: Creamy and rich, it adds luxurious texture and balance to every bite.
    • Crushed Red Pepper: Optional but highly encouraged if you love a little extra heat on your high protein personal pizza.

    Substitution Options

One of the best things about this Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza is how adaptable it is. You can easily tweak the ingredients to fit your preferences while still keeping that bold, cheesy, slightly spicy vibe. Whether youโ€™re adjusting for dietary needs or simply working with whatโ€™s in your fridge, there are plenty of ways to customize your homemade pizza with roasted red peppers. Here are some easy swaps to try.

    • All Purpose Flour: Swap for bread flour for an even chewier crust, or use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend if needed. Your homemade pizza dough will still bake up beautifully.
    • Greek Yogurt: You can substitute with whole milk Greek yogurt for extra richness, or even skyr for another high-protein option in your high protein personal pizza.
    • Garlic Lovers Pizza Sauce: Use any favorite marinara, spicy arrabbiata, or even a light pesto for a fun twist on this Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.
    • Fat Free Mozzarella: Feel free to use part-skim or whole milk mozzarella if you prefer a richer melt and texture.
    • Buffalo Mozzarella: Fresh mozzarella pearls or sliced fresh mozzarella work just as well for that creamy finish.
    • Calabrian Pepper: If you canโ€™t find them, try sliced cherry peppers or a spoonful of chili paste for a similar spicy punch in your Calabrian pepper pizza.
    • Roasted Red Pepper: Jarred works great, but you can also roast your own for deeper flavor in your homemade pizza with roasted red peppers.

Mix, match, and make it your own. No matter how you customize it, this high protein personal pizza will still deliver that golden crust, melty cheese, and bold flavor combo youโ€™re craving.

**If there is a sub I haven’t mentioned above, it’s because I have not tested it and can’t speak for how well it would work for this recipe.

How to Make Your Calabrian Roasted Red Pepper Personal Pizza

Making this Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza from scratch is easier than you think. The dough comes together with simple pantry staples and just needs a little patience while it rises. Once that homemade pizza dough proofs, the rest moves quickly. Before you know it, youโ€™ll have a golden, bubbly high protein personal pizza coming out of your oven.

calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza 01

    Activate the Yeast –

In a medium mixing bowl, combine your warm water, salt, sugar, and yeast. Give it a quick stir and let it sit for about 5โ€“10 minutes until slightly foamy. This step wakes up the yeast and sets the foundation for a soft, chewy crust.

    Mix the Dough –

Sift in your flour and add the Greek yogurt. Use a spatula or spoon to mix everything together until it starts to form a shaggy dough. Donโ€™t worry if it looks a little messy at first โ€” thatโ€™s normal when making homemade pizza dough.

calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza 02

    Knead & Proof –

Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead with your hands until it begins to smooth out. It doesnโ€™t need to be perfect! Place it back into the bowl lightly coated with oil, cover with a towel, and let it rest at room temperature for 2โ€“3 hours. It should nearly double in size, giving you that fluffy base for your Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.

    Shape the Crust –

Once risen, place the dough back on your counter and cut it in half. Preheat your oven to 450ยฐ. Roll one portion into a smooth ball by gently pulling it toward you to tighten the seams. Line a pizza paddle or baking surface with parchment and sprinkle with semolina flour. Press the dough into a roughly 6-inch circle, leaving a slight edge for that golden crust.

calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza 03

    Add the Toppings –

Spread on the sauce, then sprinkle the fat free mozzarella evenly over the top. Add the sliced Calabrian peppers. Slice your roasted red peppers and pat them dry to remove excess moisture before adding. If using buffalo mozzarella stored in water, squeeze out any excess liquid before placing it on your Calabrian pepper pizza.

calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza 04

    Bake –

Transfer the pizza (with parchment) into the oven. Bake for 5 minutes, then remove and rotate. Dab away any excess moisture in the center if needed. Bake for another 3 minutes. Add fresh basil if desired and broil on high for about 1ยฝ minutes until bubbly and lightly golden. Finish with crushed red pepper.

Slice into quarters and enjoy immediately. The crust should be crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and perfectly balanced with smoky roasted red peppers and spicy Calabrian heat. Homemade pizza with roasted red peppers never tasted this good.

    Tips and Tricks

Here are some helpful tips and tricks to make your Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza turn out perfectly every time. From mastering your homemade pizza dough to balancing the bold flavors, these little details make a big difference. Letโ€™s make sure your high protein personal pizza is golden, bubbly, and absolutely irresistible.

    • Activate Your Yeast Properly: Make sure your water is warm, not hot. If itโ€™s too hot, it can kill the yeast and prevent your homemade pizza dough from rising properly. Youโ€™re looking for slightly foamy after 5โ€“10 minutes.
    • Donโ€™t Panic About Sticky Dough: If your dough feels tacky at first, thatโ€™s normal. Lightly flour your surface and keep kneading โ€” it will smooth out and become elastic, which is key for a great Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza crust.
    • Let It Proof Fully: Give the dough enough time to rise. A proper 2โ€“3 hour proof creates that airy interior and golden, chewy texture that makes this homemade pizza with roasted red peppers so satisfying.
    • Pat Dry Your Toppings: Roasted red peppers and buffalo mozzarella hold extra moisture. Patting them dry prevents a soggy center and keeps your Calabrian pepper pizza crisp.
    • Leave That Crust Edge: When shaping your dough, donโ€™t press all the way to the edge. Leaving a border helps create that beautiful golden rim on your high protein personal pizza.
    • High Heat Is Key: Baking at a high temperature ensures a crisp bottom and bubbly top. It mimics that pizzeria-style finish for your Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.
    • Adjust the Heat Level: Love spice? Add more Calabrian peppers or crushed red pepper. Prefer it mild? Use less. This homemade pizza with roasted red peppers is easy to customize.

Follow these simple tips and your Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza will taste like it came straight from a wood-fired oven. Homemade pizza night just got upgraded.

    Storage Instructions

If you happen to have leftovers of this Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza, storing it properly will help maintain its texture and flavor. While this high protein personal pizza is best enjoyed fresh, you can absolutely save slices for later. Hereโ€™s how to keep your homemade pizza with roasted red peppers tasting just as delicious the next day.

    • Refrigeration: Store leftover slices in an airtight container or tightly wrapped in plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator within two hours of baking to maintain freshness and food safety.
    • Layer with Parchment: If stacking slices, add a small piece of parchment paper between them to prevent sticking and protect the crust of your Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.
    • Reheating Tip: Reheat in the oven or toaster oven at 375ยฐ for a few minutes to bring back the crispness. Avoid microwaving if possible, as it can make the crust of your Calabrian pepper pizza soft.
    • Avoid Freezing Fresh Mozzarella Toppings: Because this recipe uses buffalo mozzarella and roasted red peppers, freezing isnโ€™t ideal. The texture may change and release excess moisture when thawed.

By storing and reheating mindfully, you can enjoy your homemade pizza with roasted red peppers even after pizza night. The crust may soften slightly in the fridge, but a quick reheat restores that golden bite. Every slice of this high protein personal pizza is worth savoring.

    FAQs

Before you get started on your Calabrian roasted red pepper personal pizza, you might have a few questions. Totally normal, especially if this is your first time making homemade pizza dough. Here are some common questions to help you feel confident making this high protein personal pizza.

    1. Can I make the homemade pizza dough ahead of time?

Yes! You can prepare the dough and let it rise in the refrigerator overnight for a slower fermentation. Just allow it to come to room temperature before shaping. This can actually enhance the flavor of your Calabrian roasted red pepper pizza.

    2. What if I donโ€™t have Calabrian peppers?

If you canโ€™t find them, you can substitute with cherry peppers, banana peppers, or even a spoonful of chili paste. While the flavor wonโ€™t be identical, youโ€™ll still get a delicious homemade pizza with roasted red peppers that has a nice kick.

    3. How do I keep my pizza from getting soggy in the center?

Be sure to pat dry your roasted red peppers and squeeze excess water from the buffalo mozzarella. Baking at a high temperature and rotating midway through also helps ensure your Calabrian pepper pizza stays crisp.

    4. Can I make this into a larger pizza instead of a personal size?

Absolutely. Instead of dividing the dough, simply roll it out larger and adjust the bake time slightly. Just keep an eye on the crust to ensure your high protein personal pizza (or full-size version!) stays golden and perfectly cooked.
