Key Ingredients for these Single-Serve Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Here are some simple yet delicious ingredients you will need to create this cozy Spiced Apples Single-Serve Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing:

Spiced Apples –

  • Small Apple: Preferably a sweet variety like Honeycrisp or Gala, small diced for a burst of natural sweetness.
  • Sugar-Free Syrup: A guilt-free and low-calorie alternative to regular syrup.
  • Cinnamon: For that warm, comforting spice necessary for the fall.

Dough –

  • Self Rising Flour: Creates for the perfect light and fluffy texture to your cinnamon rolls.
  • Unflavored Protein Powder: This helps boost the protein content for your cinnamon rolls without compromising the taste or texture.
  • Non-Fat Greek Yogurt: This will help bind your dough together and add a nice creamy and tangy flavor.

Cream Cheese Icing –

  • Reduced Fat Cream Cheese: This is how you’ll create that creamy and indulgent icing.
  • Powdered Sugar: Necessary to add the perfect sweetness to the top of your single-serve apple cinnamon rolls.

Substitution Options

For those who may have specific preferences, here are some substitution ideas:

  • Self-Rising Flour: You can sub this with either oat flour or all-purpose flour but keep in mind it may change the texture.
  • Unflavored Protein Powder: Feel free to substitute the unflavored protein powder with a flavored option to add a hint of vanilla or chocolate to the dough.
  • Sugar-Free Syrup: If sugar-free syrup isn’t your preference, try using a natural sweetener like maple syrup, honey or agave.
  • Non-Fat Greek Yogurt: While non-fat Greek yogurt is recommended, you can explore other yogurt varieties or even dairy free options but keep in mind that it may give a slightly different texture.
  • Coconut Sugar: Substitute coconut sugar with brown sugar for a deeper, molasses-like flavor.
  • Cream Cheese Icing: If you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative, try a plant-based cream cheese.

These key ingredients and substitution options offer a versatile foundation, allowing you to tailor these single-serve apple cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing to your unique taste and dietary preferences.

**If there is a sub I haven’t mentioned above, it’s because I have not tested it and can’t speak for how well it would work for this recipe.

Equipment and Tools

For the creation of these delightful single-serve apple cinnamon rolls, you won’t need a plethora of specialized equipment. Here’s what you’ll require:

  • Mixing Bowl: A medium-sized mixing bowl to combine and knead the dough efficiently.
  • Ramekin: Opt for a small ramekin to give your cinnamon rolls their distinctive shape while baking.
  • Measuring Scale: I prefer to use a scale to weigh out all the larger ingredients for a more precise measurement.
  • Brush: A kitchen brush comes in handy for evenly applying the syrup to the rolled-out dough, infusing it with sweetness.

How to Make Your Cinnamon Rolls

Let’s break down the quick and easy steps necessary for creating this recipe!

Single Serve Apple Cinnamon Rolls Progress Shot 01

Prepare Spiced Apples

In a bowl, combine diced apples, sugar-free syrup, and cinnamon. Cook on low heat for approximately 15 minutes, allowing the apples to become tender and infused with delightful spices.

Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour, unflavored protein powder, and non-fat Greek yogurt. Stir with a spoon until the ingredients form a cohesive dough.

Ensure the countertop is lightly floured. Knead the dough on the floured countertop until it reaches an elastic consistency. Divide it in half to create two equal portions. Roll each portion into a skinny, long strip.

Add the Filling

Brush the inside of each dough strip with half of the syrup from the filling ingredients. Sprinkle an even layer of 1 tbsp of coconut sugar on each strip. Spread half of the spiced apples evenly over the sugar.

Roll each dough strip tightly and place it in a small ramekin. Repeat the process for the second cinnamon roll.

Bake to Perfection

Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown, and the aroma fills your kitchen with anticipation.

Prepare Cream Cheese Icing

While the rolls are baking, whisk together reduced-fat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. This luscious icing will crown your cinnamon rolls with creamy perfection.

Cool and Ice

Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool before generously icing each one with the cream cheese icing mixture. This step ensures the icing maintains its delightful consistency without melting.

Now, your single-serve apple cinnamon rolls are ready to be enjoyed! Whether you’re treating yourself after a workout or satisfying your sweet cravings, each bite promises a symphony of flavors that will have you savoring every moment of your culinary creation.

Tips and Tricks

Here are some valuable tips and tricks to make your preparation of these Cinnamon Rolls even more enjoyable and successful.

  • Flavorful Filling: To enhance the flavor profile, consider adding a dash of nutmeg or sprinkle some chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts, to the spiced apples.
  • Tight Rolling Technique: For a gooey and satisfying center, ensure the dough is tightly rolled before placing it in the ramekin.
  • Even Distribution: When spreading the spiced apples on the dough, aim for an even distribution to ensure every bite is a harmonious blend of cinnamon and sweetness.
  • Cool Before Icing: Let the cinnamon rolls cool before applying the cream cheese icing. This ensures a smooth and creamy topping without any unwanted melting.

Storage Instructions

To prolong the freshness of your single-serve apple cinnamon rolls:

  • Refrigeration: Store the rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
  • Reheating: When ready to enjoy, reheat the rolls in the oven for a few minutes to restore that fresh-from-the-oven taste.
  • Freezing: These rolls are best enjoyed fresh, so I would not recommend freezing them.

With these storage instructions, you can make the most of your Single-Serve Apple Cinnamon Rolls and enjoy it whenever the craving strikes.

FAQs

  1. Can I use a different type of flour for the dough?

While self-rising flour provides a light and fluffy texture, you can experiment with alternatives like whole wheat flour or a gluten-free blend. Keep in mind that this might slightly alter the texture of the rolls.

  2. Can I substitute the non-fat Greek yogurt with a plant-based option?

Absolutely! Opt for a non-dairy yogurt like almond or coconut yogurt to make these cinnamon rolls suitable for a vegan diet.

  3. How do I know when the rolls are baked to perfection?

Look for golden-brown tops and a delightful aroma. The rolls should be firm to the touch, indicating a well-baked, gooey center.

  4. Can I make these cinnamon rolls ahead of time?

Certainly! Prepare the rolls and refrigerate them before baking. When ready to indulge, pop them in the oven for a fresh, warm treat.

  5. What if I don’t have a ramekin?

No worries! You can use a any oven-safe dish to create individual portions.
