Say hello to the ultimate Korean BBQ Tempeh Sandwichโ€”a crispy, saucy, high-protein meal thatโ€™s anything but boring. This isnโ€™t your average BBQ sandwichโ€”itโ€™s a flavor explosion with air-fried tempeh coated in a sticky-sweet Korean BBQ sauce, layered with creamy gochujang yogurt, a jammy fried egg, and fresh, crunchy lettuce.

Korean BBQ tempeh sandwich stacked with a perfectly runny egg, crisp greens, and smoky, marinated tempeh on whole grain breadโ€”packed with flavor and plant-based protein.

Why You’ll Love this Korean BBQ Tempeh Sandwich

The contrast of textures is next level. The crispy tempeh delivers the perfect crunch, while the rich and spicy sauce soaks into toasted bread, creating a sandwich thatโ€™s equal parts hearty and irresistible. And letโ€™s not forget that creamy gochujang spreadโ€”it ties everything together with just the right amount of heat and tang.

Every bite is packed with layers of umami, subtle sweetness, and a hint of smokiness from the BBQ sauce, making it an unforgettable sandwich experience. The combination of soft bread, crispy tempeh, and crunchy lettuce ensures that you get the perfect balance of texture in every bite.

Itโ€™s quick, easy, and perfect for a solo lunch or a bold dinner. Ready in under 30 minutes, this crispy tempeh sandwich proves that high-protein meals donโ€™t have to be boring.

Whether youโ€™re looking for a satisfying meal after a long day or just need something packed with flavor, this sandwich has you covered. Serve it up with a side of crunchy slaw, a handful of crispy fries, or even a simple cucumber salad to round out the meal.

One thingโ€™s for sureโ€”youโ€™ll be making this one on repeat!

Instructions

Tempeh:

  • In a shallow bowl, add your bbq sauce and lay in the slices of tempeh. Coat both sides and then add to your air fryer basket evenly with no overlap.
    15 ml (1 tbsp) Korean BBQ Sauce, 64 g (2.25 oz) Tempeh
  • Air fry at 375ยฐ for 8-10 minutes, flipping over halfway.

Gochujang Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together your yogurt and Gochujang sauce.
    28 g (2 tbsp) Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt, 5 g (1 tsp) Hot & Sweet Gochujang Sauce
  • Fry your egg in a small pan with olive oil spray. I like to cook my over medium so all the whites are cooked but the middle stays jammy.
    1 Large Brown Egg
  • Toast your slices of bread in a toaster oven.
    2 slices Sprouted Grain Bread

Sandwich:

  • Assemble your sandwich by laying down a slice of toast and spreading the sauce.
  • Add the crispy tempeh, lettuce, and fried egg. Close your sandwich with the other slice and cut in half!
    Handful of Lettuce
